<br />Feasibi1ity of Construction <br />of the <br />Sprinqda1e Ditch Company <br />Augmentation Project <br /> <br />Project Sponsor <br /> <br />The Springdale Ditch Company (SDC) is a Colorado mutual ditch <br />company and a non-profit corporation. <br /> <br />SDC was formed in late 1800's to construct and operate the <br />Springdale Ditch for the benefit of the shareholders. The SDC <br />currently has 52 shareholders with 831.5 shares of stock. The <br />Company can divert 62.5 cubic feet of water per second of time <br />from the South Platte River, at a headgate located about 1 mile <br />Southwest of Atwood, Colorado. From this headgate, the SDC has <br />had an average annual diversion of 7,150 acre feet or <br />approximately 8.6 acre feet per share. <br /> <br />The ground under the SDC is also irrigated with 34 tributary <br />groundwater wells. The wells pump on average 3,500 acre-feet of <br />water annually. Some of the 43 wells are partially augmented <br />under their own augmentation plan. The remaining augmentation on <br />these wells is provided by the Groundwater Appropriators of the <br />South Platte (GASP) plan of operation. <br /> <br />Project Service Area <br /> <br />The service area is located in Logan County, from Atwood to about <br />2 miles North of Sterling. The service area is located on the <br />North side of the South Platte River in Logan County. The SDC <br />service area irrigates on the average 4,490 acres. The water is <br />typically used to irrigate corn, alfalfa, beans, and sugar. beets. <br />See map on page 3.
