Feasibi1ity of Construction
of the
Sprinqda1e Ditch Company
Augmentation Project

Project Sponsor

The Springdale Ditch Company (SDC) is a Colorado mutual ditch
company and a non-profit corporation.

SDC was formed in late 1800's to construct and operate the
Springdale Ditch for the benefit of the shareholders. The SDC
currently has 52 shareholders with 831.5 shares of stock. The
Company can divert 62.5 cubic feet of water per second of time
from the South Platte River, at a headgate located about 1 mile
Southwest of Atwood, Colorado. From this headgate, the SDC has
had an average annual diversion of 7,150 acre feet or
approximately 8.6 acre feet per share.

The ground under the SDC is also irrigated with 34 tributary
groundwater wells. The wells pump on average 3,500 acre-feet of
water annually. Some of the 43 wells are partially augmented
under their own augmentation plan. The remaining augmentation on
these wells is provided by the Groundwater Appropriators of the
South Platte (GASP) plan of operation.

Project Service Area

The service area is located in Logan County, from Atwood to about
2 miles North of Sterling. The service area is located on the
North side of the South Platte River in Logan County. The SDC
service area irrigates on the average 4,490 acres. The water is
typically used to irrigate corn, alfalfa, beans, and sugar. beets.
See map on page 3.
