BENEFITS: <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />'. <br /> <br />data based for future geographic information systems applications. <br /> <br />The results of the bedrock outcrop and subcrop mapping will be published <br />as one Hydrologic Investigations Atlas or similar series report. This report <br />will consist of four maps sheets at I :50,000 scale and also will be available <br />as digi1al coverages upon request. <br /> <br />The Hy:lrogeologic mapping of the shallow aquifers in the Boulder-Fort <br />eollins-Greeiey-Brighton study area will be compatible with a similar set of <br />maps published in 1996 for the Denver metropolitan arca Robson (1996}. <br />With completion of the study area mapping, a comprehcnsive description <br />of the geohydrology of tile South Platte aquifer system and tributaries will <br />be available for the Urban corridor from North of Fort Collins to Douglas <br />eounty. <br /> <br />Because mapping will include the extensive shallow aquifers underlying <br />upland areas in addition to the thicker aquifers of the South Platte aquifer <br />systems, the results will have broad application for individuals, businesses, <br />and municipalities throughout the study area. I: is envisaged that users <br />would include: - <br /> <br />I. Planners at city, county, and state levels who could use study results to <br />make planning decisions that better consider site hazards from shallow <br />water tables, the availability and chemical quality of local ground-water <br />supplies, and the effects of land-use practices on ground-water quality. <br /> <br />2. Waste water treatment districts that could improve estimates of stream <br />waste-load allocation based on improved estimates of ground-water <br />discharge to the South Platte River. <br /> <br />3. Individuals who need such information as causes of basement flooding, <br />foundation excavation conditions, and availability of shallow ground-water <br />suppiies. <br /> <br />4. eommercial users of hazardous materials who must file permit <br />applications requiring information on surficial geology, depth to water- <br />table, and direction of ground-water movement. <br /> <br />5. Governmental agencies dealing with environmental or water rights <br />issues where rapid access to hydrogeologic information on the aquifer <br />would streamline operations. <br /> <br />6. Owners of existing tributary water rights in the area who might benefit <br /> <br />5 <br />
