I <br />. <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />,. <br />I <br /> <br />Sawmill Mountain Reservoir <br />Sawmill Mountain Reservoir would be located just upstream from Lake Avery on <br />Big Beaver Creek. The dam would be 335 feet high and the reservoir would <br />have about 58,000 acre-feet of total storage, 55,000 of which would be <br />active. <br /> <br />A diversion dam would be located on the North Fork of the White River just <br />below Lost Creek. A gravity pipeline from the diversion dam would convey <br />water to the reservoir. The pipeline would parallel the river and highway <br />to about two miles upstream of Big Beaver Creek where it would turn <br />northward around Lake Avery west to Sawmill Mountain Reservoir. <br /> <br />Irrigation and coal would flow by gravity from the reservoir through the <br />3000-foot tunnel under Oak Ridge. Municipal, domestic, and oil shale water <br />would be released to the river through Lake Avery for diversion downstream. <br /> <br />A number of geologic formations, largely sandstones and some siltstones, <br />shales, and limestones, are present at the damsite. Six holes were drilled <br />by the USBR along the axis of the dam. These holes indicate that the right <br />abutment is quite competent, whereas the left abutment has 30-70 feet of <br />talus overlying badly fractured sandstones and siltstones. High <br />permeabilities were measured in the left abutment. There is little building <br />material available; the USBR considered a concrete dam because of this lack <br />of construction material. <br /> <br />Steeley Reservoir <br />Steeley Dam and Reservoir would be located on the North Fork of the White <br />River. There would be potential for a power plant at this dam, unlike the <br />off-channel sites. The dam would be approximately three miles upstream from <br />Buford and would be 195 feet high.
