From there the route is proposed to parll1el
the Rocky Ford Oitch alignment, about one mile, then traverses in a straight
1 i ne southwesterly to a 1 ocati on about one mi 1 e south of the M and M Truck
Stop. At this location, the alignment proceeds \~est under State Highway 666
until it reaches the Ci ty and County property for the Montezuma County
Airport. It is proposed that the pipeline follow the western boundary of the
airport property in a southwesterly direction toward Towaoc.

From the end of the ai rport property to Towaoc, there are numerous small
alternative a1 i gnment potenti al vari ati ons. 'lne of the shortest and most
desi rabl e from a standooi nt of ease of constructi on is the Alternati ve A
Alignment shown on Figure 3.~.

Alignments A and B have been used in this study for comparison. The
comparison is detailed in Section 3.10 of this chapter where the cost of the
pipeline system for both alignments are presented. Alignment A requires
1 arger expenditlJres for acqui si ti on of ri ght-of-way easements across numerous
private lands, while Alignment B is longer and will result in slower and more
expensive construction.

Another alignment similar to Alternative B that utilizes public lands is a
route that proceeds along county road networks to the west of the ai rport.
While it is estimated that utility interference would be much less along this
route, it is nearly 3 miles longer than Alignment B, and thus more expensive.

Other alignments that initially proceeded south and then east
treatment plant to avoid developed regions were also examined
alignment could parallel either the electric transmission line

from the Cortez
The pipeline
or the Bureau's

3-:B

l060c
