Many factors influence usage <br />rates, such as lanrl use and climate. Towaoc currently has relatively little <br />landscaping or lawns to require substantial outside irriqation. It is <br />expecterl that outsirle irrigation in Towaoc will increase as an additinnal firm <br />water supply becomes avail abl e. Consequently, desi gni ng on the basi s of the <br />present 94 gpcd is not advisable. Therefore, average usages for other <br />municipalities have been investigated in an attempt to determine an <br />appropriate usage for design. <br /> <br />A study by Hughes and Gross (1979) for municipalities in the State of Utah <br />(some of which have climates similar to that of Towaoc) proposed methodologies <br />for estimati ng average demands for towns havi ng different degrees of outsi de <br />water usage. Their study estimates that for a town having very small <br />landscaped areas, the average demand would be approximately 74 gpcd less than <br />a town having a moderate amount of landscaping. If it is assummed that Towaoc <br />currently fits into the very small 1 andscaped area category, but eventually <br />wi 11 change to a moderate amount of 1 and scapi ng, the future average usage <br />could climb by 74 gpcd, thus reaching 168 gpcd. <br /> <br />Considering the various recommendations presented above, an average usage rate <br />of 200 gpcd has been adopted fo!" use in annual water demand projections for <br />thi s study. <br /> <br />Figure 2.2 illustrates how the total annual water demand will rise with time <br />for the two popu1 ati on growth rates exami ned. In thi s fi gure, it has been <br />assumed that the increase in the average annual use rate from the present <br />94 gpcd to 200 gpcd will occur uniformly over the next twenty-three years (to <br />year 2010). Using these assumed usage rates and also assuming that Towaoc <br />grows at an average annual rate of between one and two percent, Fi gure 2.2 <br />shows that the 1,000 af allocation will provide the Town of Towaoc with an <br />adequate municipal supply until some time between year 2047 and 2110. <br /> <br />2-5 <br /> <br />l059c <br />
