Of this total amount, approximately 15 percent would be attributable <br />to the storage account during water years 1990-94. <br /> <br />Manvel Canal <br /> <br />In 1993, LAWMA acquired 300 shares in the Manvel Canal and Irrigation Company. <br />The Manvel Canal and Irrigation Company is a mutual ditch company that owns the Manvel <br />Canal and its associated water right. At present, there are 4,680 shares outstanding in the <br />company; consequently LAWMA's present interest is 6.41 percent of the total shares <br />outstanding in the company. Previous studies by this consultant indicated that approximately <br />94 acre-feet of annual consumptive use are attributable to this interest. The remaining <br />interests in the Manvel Canal are considered in rnore detail in a later section of this report as <br />a potential acquisition for LAWMA. <br /> <br />Fort Bent Ditch <br /> <br />LAWMA has the use of water corresponding to 1,436 shares in the Fort Bent Ditch <br />Company. One hundred twenty of these shares were purchased by LAWMA in 1994. The <br />remaining 1,316 shares are available to LAWMA through an arrangement with the City of <br />Lamar. The LAWMA shares were used historically on the Kendall Farm immediately east of <br />Lamar. The City shares were used historically on the Cruikshank Farm east of Lamar. <br /> <br />The Fort Bent Ditch Company is a mutual ditch company that owns the Fort Bent Canal <br />and its associated water rights. The water for the canal is diverted from the south bank of <br />the Arkansas River in sec. 1, T.23 S., R.49 W., about 5 miles downstream from John Martin <br />Dam.
