A major disadvantage'
is that the supply system by the CWCWD is a substantial distance
away and would require a large expenditure of funds for transmission
mains.

Preliminary cost figures have been prepared in a later chapter to
provide a general understanding of the scope and financial require-
ments of this alternate. Preliminary studies indicate that it would
be most practical to use this source as a supplemental supply to
the existing deep wells water supply. ,In order to meet water
quality standards, it would be necessary to blend at ,least 20% of
CWCWD water with deep well water to meet minimum standards.

Two possible lOcations to connect with the CWCWD system were
determined to be at Storage Tank No. 2 located approximately 20 miles
northeast of Keenesburg or at the transmission main of the District
located directly to the east of the tri-town area of Firestone,
Frederick and Dacono.. This second location would allow possible
joint participation with other communities such as Ft. Lupton, Hudson,
and/or other rural users extending to Keenesburg.

These alternates are shown in Exhibit V-2. A booster pumping facility
would be required in order to transmit the water to Keenesburg from
the District.

Unfortunately, the NCWCD has established limiting boundaries beyond'
which it will not allow CBT water to be delivered. Keenesburg is not
within the Conservancy District boundary. Because CWCWDuses CBT
water as a source of supply, it is limited to the boundaries of the
. NCWCD. The NCWCD Boa rd ha s been very fi rm in its pol icy for not
expanding its boundaries.

However, there have been recent activities which may allow alternate
considerations. One of these is that the "Six Cities" project or
"Hindy Gap" project will bring additional transmountain water through
facilities of the NCWCD. This water may be delivered outside the

v - 3
