I I I I I. I I I I I I I I I I I I CHAPTER V PLAN OF DEVELOPMENT A. PHYSICAL PLAN The Town of Keenesburgls domestic water supply system has need for improvement in all of its major facilities. This includes supply, treatment, distribution, and storage. Of these major components to the system, the distribution and the storage facilitie~ can be most readily evaluated and methods for improvements determined. When evaluating the supply and treatment of the water, it is more difficult to determine the most acceptable, practical, and cost effective method for the needed improvements. This is primarily due to the lack of a good raw water source of supply in the area and a lack of practical and/or economical methods of treatment available for improving existing water supplies to meet minimum standards. The primary components of the water system and consideration for improvement of each are described in the fo,llowing paragraphs. Because of the necessity for economical and adequate treatment of many of the sources of supply considered, these two major components are discussed jointly. 1. Source of Supply and Treatment. General: In addition to the existing deep wells, several other alternates were considered as a source of supply for the Town of Keenesburg. Generally speaking, there are no other reliable water supply sources available in the nearby area which meet minimum Department of Health standards or can be treated on an economical basis to meet the minimum health standards. There are good water supply sources outside of the immediate area such as availability of the Denver Water Board supply or the Colorado-Big Thompson project water of the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District. However, in addition to being remote and costly, these water supplies are not available at this time.due to limit~ of established service boundaries and/or other political or restricting reasons.
