Irrigation Use

The possibility of expansion of the crop area served by the Monte
Vi sta and Ri 0 Grande Canal s is remote because of corporate
1 imitations, topography and water supply 1 imitations. The trend or
pattern in the three counties over the past several years has been
relatively constant for total cropped acreage, with increases or
decreases in acreage of individual crops a result of market pressure.

b. Municipal and Industrial Use

There are no indications that the present pattern of widely-
di spersed agricultural water users wi 11 change. Introducti on of new
industry and population demands beyond the existing agricultural acti-
vity is unlikely given available information and conditions.

C. Land Ownership

Water diverted through the Rio Grande and Monte Vista Canals is
available to stockholders of the Santa Maria Reservoir Company,
totaling 240 famil ies. Infonnation concerning the acreage owned by
individual families and distribution of stock ownership within the
service area is not readily available, am! was not deemed necessary
for this report.

I II - 6
