Box 1092 Durango, Colo. 81302 87-8 RESOLUTION TO OPEN NEGOTIATIONS FOR PROCUREMENT OF ADDITIONAL MUNICIPAL WATER SUPPLY TO DURANGO WEST METROPOLITAN DISTRICT #2 WHEREAS, the DURANGO WEST AREA is in dire need of additional municipal water supplies to meet present and future needs; WHEREAS, DISTRICT #2 has participated in the DURANGO WEST Water Supply Study funded by the CWCB, The Southwestern Water Conservation District, and District's #1 and #2, which was initiated in January 1987; WHEREAS, the study showed that the LaPlata River was the least costly method of supplying water to the DURANGO WEST AREA for the next twenty (20) years; WHEREAS, negotiations have been conducted with an owner of water rights on the LaPlata River to purchase said rights for use by DURANGO WEST, and those discussions are continuing with preparation of a purchase agreement and preparation of the legal documents to transfer the water to DURANGO WEST; WHEREAS, the estimated cost of the project is $1,000,000.00 including $200,000.00 for a water treatment plant; WHEREAS, the estimated cost of the project is $1,000,000.00 including $200,000.00, which will be used to fund the water treatment plant; BE IT RESOLVED, that DURANGO WEST METROPOLITAN DISTRICT #2, jointly with DISTRICT #1 request that the CWCB fund the DURANGO WEST Water Supply Project facilities required to convey water from the LaPlata River to DURANGO WEST, to the amount of $408,000.00 which will be repaid at a yearly rate based upon 5% for forty (40) years.
