I

I

It is not known at this time how or whether. the rehabilitation of
Bootleg, Klug, and/or Ireland #5 Reservoirs could benefit the Subdistrict
as it moves toward better management and augmentation of Box Elder Creek
groundwater withdrawals. The Subdistrict will most likely continue to
negotiate with surface water suppliers in the area to deliver South Platte
surplus flows into Box Elder Creek. If groundwater can be better managed
through the use of surface reservoirs, the Subdistrict would wish to
cooperatively develop these sites for augmentation use.

I

I

I

Use of Surface Water

I

Use of surface water in Box Elder Creek is limited. Bootleg Reservoir
has captured flood flows for delivery into the Henrylyn system. Ireland #5
Reservoir has delivered water via pump lift to sprinkler irrigation
systems. At one time, ditch and lateral systems delivered water out of
both Klug Reservoir and Ireland #5 Reservoir, however, neither of these
systems exist today.

I

I

In the lowest reaches of Box Elder Creek, imported surface waters are
conunonly used. Water from FRICD's Milton Reservoir system are delivered
via the Gilmore Canal. The Latham sysem also services lands in Box Elder
Creek. At the point where the Latham Canal crosses Box Elder Creek, the
Box Elder Waste and Seepage Ditch No. 2 delivers water to approximately
eight farms in the Kuner area. This ditch is the only active direct flow
water right in Box Elder Creek.

I

I

with the exception of Bootleg Reservoir, development of surface water
irrigation supplies on Box Elder Creek is not contemplated by Central.

I
I

I

I

I

I

I

I
I

4
