.

.

4

spillway is lined with rock riprap with dimensions ranGing from 3
to 24 inches. There was a minor amount of debris in the spillway
and some of it had been recently burned. Numerous longitudinal
cracks and some slumping of natllral coarss-grained materials were
observed alonG the south side of the spillway (Figure 6).

The outlet worlcs for the dam consists of a 9-foot (approximate)
diameter concrete ring, located about 30 feet into the reservoir
from the crest of the upstream slope of the dam (Figure 5). From
the top of the structure, two handles control the operation of
two valves that regulate flow of two pipelines through the dam.
One pipeline, a 20 inch diameter cast iron pipe, serves as the
outlet and daylights at the downstream two of the dam, The other
pipeline (12 inch diameter) is the water supply line that runs
directly into the City of Victor water treatment plant. Both
valves apparently are in good operating condition,

The downstream face of the darn is partially protected by rock
riprap. Some tress have been growing on the face but many of
them have been recently cut down, The slope of the downstream
face varies between l,3H to 2H;lV (Figure 2), The steepest
portion is at or very near the angle of repose for coarse grained
granitic rock (Figure 4), When the dam was raised, coarse-
grained fill material was apparently loosely dumped along the
downstream face to a location very near the toe of the original
face (FiGure 3). The downstream face, however, shows no apparent
signs of seepage or slope instability.

The upper 3 feet of the upstream face of the darn is very steep
(330) simila::- to portions of the downstream face (Figure 4), A
minor amount of undercutting by wave action is noticeable about
7 feet below the crest. The upstream slope flattens beneath
S feet from the crest to between 1.75 to 2il:lV(Figure 2).
