EAGLE REPORT
CHAPTER THREE
HISTORY OF WATER USE

~

The residents of the town of Eagle have always obtained their domestic

water from Brush Creek. The water intake headgate on Brush Creek has been

relocated four or five times since 1910. Near the present location ,of this

headgate, the town had an infiltration gallery to take the water out of

Brush Creek. This infiltration gallery worked like most infiltration gal-

leries. That is, it worked until the silt from Brush Creek plugged it up.

No means were provided to backwash this infiltration gallery, and as a

result, the life expectancy of the gallery was shorter than anticipated by

the town.

The town of Eagle was fru$trated by its attempts to obtain potable

water from Brush Creek, so an engineer was retained to perform a water

study. This water study was completed in 1965. As a result of this study

and of the recommendations contained in it, the town of Eagle entered into

a contract to construct a water treatment plant. This plant has been in

operation for over four years nOW.

Prior to the completion of the water treatment plant, the town of

Eagle had no method of recording the water consumption of the users on

the system. In 1973 the town initiated a meter installation system. This

system was completed in 1975. The'readings from the master meter at the

water treatment plant and the total readings of all the individual water

users indicate that the water consumption has decreased greatly since the

installation of individual meters.

All the water produced by the water treatment plant does not reach

the ultimate water users. Some of the water is used to backwash the filter

.

~'

.

- 13 -
