.

In addition to the water distribution line, there are other appurte-

nances that make up the distribution system such as valves, water

meters, a pumping station, storage tanks, and repair equipment.

The town also has a new treated water transmission line and water

treatment facility which WaS constructed at a cost of approximately

$292,000 in 1971-72. The town's water system also has about 27,400 lineal

feet of raw water transmission line. This raw water line is made up of

8", 10", and 12" diameter pipe-

'.

The physical assets can be divided into six distinct categories, which

consist of the following: distribution system; raw water transmission;

treated water transmission; storage; treatment; and, water intake structure

and settling pond. These categories will be described in detail in the fol-

lowing paragraphs. ,

Distribution system: Exhibit C at the end of this report shows the

location and sizes of the existing distribution system pipes in the

town of Eagle in blue. It can be seen from this exhibit that many

of the water lines are 4" in size and that these water lines serve

fire hydrants. It can al~o be seen that there are many dead ends

in the system which create some difficulty in serving water for domes-

tic use and fire protection.

As the town ,of Eagle grew, and this happens in many municipalities

and water utility companieS, small areas within the service limits of

the town were developed aod water extensions were made for service.

The developers in this cage installed small mains for domestic water

only. Many dead ends res~lted from this procedure. Later, adjacent

areas developed and tapped onto the same lines. This process continued

and soon the people served expecteq, but rarely received, all of the

o

..

.

- 8 -
