Activities

Each year hundreds of hunters from allover the United States flock

to Eagle to join with local nimrods in the quest for deer, elk, and bear

in the surrounding mountains. High mountain lakes and beaver ponds, as

well as countless clear streams, provide excellent fishing prospects.

Pack trips and guided hunting trips are also available. Shoppers find a

variety of stores and services awaiting them in the downtown area, includ-

ing a bank, grocery and dry goods stores, a weekly newspaper, restaurants,

hardware stores, lumber firms, physicians, dentists, and a drug store.

Beauty and barber shops, service stations, real estate and insurance firms,

garages and appliance stores, and motels complete the shopping scene. The

town of Eagle's public school system meets the needs of the children of the

area and an efficient school buG system serves the rural areas.

Utilities

Power and fuel needs are adequately met by the Holy Cross Electric

Association and the Rocky Mountain Natural Gas Company, as well as several,

fuel oil and bottled gas suppliers. Eagle is also the main headquarters for

the Eagle Telephone Company, which provides telephone service for the resi-

dents of the community and surrounding areas. This service is interconnected

with Mountain Bell and ,features a modern dial system comparable with any

system in the world.

Climate
The weather station for Eagle is located at the Federal Aviation Ad-

ministration Airport and from 1941 to 1970 has recorded the mean yearly

temperature at 42.20 F, with January being the coldest month with an average

temperature of 18.00 F. July is the warmest month with an average
