The soils are basically loam and sandy

loam types with, some grading towards silts and clays at lower depths.

Distribution System. No adverse effects are anticipated due to so~l co~-

ditioU3. The soil is basically neutral and non-corrosive as evidenced by the

long-life and relatively good condition of the existing cast-iron mains. Water

table elevations are well below the maximum depth of any trenching operations

for water line installation. Maximum trench depths will in nearly all cases

be less than 5 feet deep so caving is not expected to be a problem.

Storage. The stability and bearing capacity of the soil will need to be

determined in conjunction with the structural design of storage tank founda-

tions. This would be accomplished during the design phase of a project after

a tank site has been acquired. Site development should include se~ding and

mulching to prevent wind erosion and to control dust. No adverse effects

are anticipated due to soil conditions..

Wells. No adverse effects are anticipated due to soil conditions. Pro-

per casing and pressure grouting techniques must be used to seal out surface

water and unacceptable water from the alluvium aquifers. Site development

should include seeding and mulching to prevent wind erosion and to control dust.

C.

DESIGN CRITERIA AND STANDARDS

Distribution Mains and Appurtenances.
