I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

"

The 82 gpcpd plus the water use by th~ school system and the laundromat

would be the total use for catagory (1) water above. Catagory (2) and (3)

water represents lost or "unaccounted-for" water. Since none of the water

supply wells in Bennett are metered, no records are kept of total water

production and Catagory (2) and (3) water cannot be determined. Published

data on "unaccounted-for" water indicate that this figure can range from

as low as 6% to as high as 50% of the total water produced. Most water

works systems in good condition with a continuous maintenance program will

average about 15 percent "unaccounted-for" water. Due to the age and

condition of the mains, the materials of construction of the mains, and

the substantial number or unmetered services or services with broken or

faulty meters, it is esti3ated that the "unaccounted-for" water will be a

relatively high percentage of the total water produced. Also since the

water supply facilitates are unmetered, a historical record is not available

---.,

for determining peak hour and peak daily demands. The above data would

indicate that the follow;ng water requirements must be met or exceeded:

Average annual usage

Assume 100% "unaccounted-for" water

Commercial laundry: 2500 . 950
School students: 20,640' 950
Total

82 gal/capita/day
82 gal/capita/day
2.6 gal/capita/day
21. 8 gal/capita/day
188.4 gal/capita/day

=

=

=

Table 3 gives a comparison of total water production for seven cities

in Colorado and may be of interest to the reader.

-9-
