8

Feasibility Report for Dam Safety Modifications to DeWeese Dam
April 22, 1997

2.5 WATER SUPPLY

The Company's ability to supply water to the Lincoln Park area is solely dependent on its direct
flow surface rights on Grape Creek and its storage rights in DeWeese Reservoir. Tables 3 and 4
provide summaries of monthly and annual ditch diversions and reservoir releases for irrigation,
as provided by records obtained from the Colorado SEa, Division of Water Resources,

No evaluations of fIrm yield were performed for this study, since the proposed modifIcations to
the dam are not intended to alter the historic use or operation of the dam and reservoir. For the
years reported in Table 5, the Company diverted an average of about 6200 af per year at the
headgate on Grape Creek for delivery to the service area. This represents about 5,6 af per acre
, of irrigated land (excluding conveyance and delivery losses), and about 0.9 af per share for 7250
shares,

The minimum annual diversion for the period reported was about 1,100 af (1986) and the
maximum annual diversion was about 8,000 af (1987). These diversions represent about 1.0 af
and 7.3 af, respectively, per acre of irrigated land (excluding conveyance and delivery losses),
or about 0,2 afand 1.1 af, respectively, per share (7250 shares),

In general, the reservoir is operated by releasing stored water from the reservoir to Grape Creek
for downstream diversion at the Company's headgate on Grape Creek, Reservoir releases are
generally made at a rate suffIcient to supplement the available direct flow water to maintain a
diversion rate at the headgate of around 25 cfs, On average, for the years reported in Table 5,
water released from reservoir storage contributed about 40 percent (about 2480 at) of the total
annual diversions made at the Company's headgate on Grape Creek,

2.6 WATER QUALITY

There presently are no water quality concerns along Grape Creek [II]. Salts have never been
identifIed as a concern because the soils native to the area do not contain soluble salts.

'q) GEl Consultants, Inc,

96006IREPORTS\FEAS\TEXT.NEW

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
