AgriculLural Economy

Data collected dllring the land elassifieation sllrvey show lands
totaling 19,149 acres had been irrigated consistently or inter-
mittently during the 1955-1959 period. This acreage was
considered irrigated in the land classification survey and is
judged to be the maximum acreage irrigated in good water years
during recent times.

FUTURE AGRICULTURAL ECONOMY

"Without" project development the existing type of agriculture
and current organization of individual farms will probably continue
into the future basically unchanged. Therefore, the economic
analyses representing future "without" conditions are based on
the, size and organization of the f~rms and the type of farming
being currently practiced in the area, inclllding the off-farm
employment of the operators.

Regulation of the water sllpply will effect significant improve-
ments in the agriculture of the area. It is anticipated that the
same general crops will continue to be grown whether or not the
project is constructed. However, a greater and more dependable
water supply will enable the farmers to intensify production inputs,
involving such items as increased use of fertilizers, herbicides,
and improved crop varieties, Greater and wider use of these factors
of production will result in increased flow of economic goods to
and from the project area.

Size and Organization of Farms

,o~

Since farm income is influenced significantly by the land
re~ources involved, studies were made of the size of farms in each
of the four study tracts. The farms which typify the existing
agriculture of each tract are shown in table 10, Budgets were
prepared for these typical or representative farms.

;'..

Crops and Crop Yields

.eo,;

The crops and crop yields used in the agricultural economy
analyses were derived from data furnished by local farmers.
