<br />Hydrology <br /> <br />Future Use <br /> <br />Any improvement in vater supply conditions must be accomplished <br />by increasing the irrigation efficiency of existing supplies. This <br />type of development is imperative because there are nO substantial <br />new water supplies available to be developed. The dominant.aspect <br />of future project operations are, therefore, concerned with improving <br />the water use efficiency. <br /> <br />All future project diversions should be limited to actual <br />reQuirements for the 19,717 acres of irrigable lands. Releases of <br />water stored in the reservoir should be made only as needed to <br />supplement natural flovs in meeting these requirements. Water <br />rights for the area, including that for the Model Reservoir, should <br />be exercised for the benefit of all irrigable lands. Priority of <br />use, as between these vater rights, should be exercised only when <br />the stored project water supply fails .to meet the requirements. <br /> <br />, <br />-,.1 <br /> <br />Irrigation season flows in excess of the requirements and <br />most winter flows will become storable under the Model decree in <br />Trinidad Reservoir. In effect, the reservoir would store that <br />portion of the historic diversion in excess of the actual <br />requirements, <br /> <br />Project Operation Studies <br /> <br />An operation study was prepared using the criteria that all <br />project lands would share the water supply equally. The results <br />indicated that an average of 51,100 acre-feet per year could be <br />diverted as needeci to meet the actual requirements. This q,uanti ty <br />is greater by 13,800 aCre-feet per year than that used efficiently <br />in historic operations to meet requirements.
