During the summer
months the days are generally warm and the nights cool, providing
for a good agricultural environment. Humidity is generally low
throughout the year, which makes for comfortable living.

There is no official weather station located in Hotchkiss. However,
records from the Paonia station, located 8 miles east, and the
Cedaredge weather station, located 16 miles north westerly, can be
used to estimate Hotchkiss's climate. This is assumed to be
representative of Hotchkiss's climate even though Paonia is 323 feet
higher, and Cedaredge is 750 feet higher than Hotchkiss elevation
of 5351.

.

Table 1-2 presents the average monthly temperature and precipitation
data for Paonia and Cedaredge. Assuming that Hotchkiss's climate
is the average of the two, the mean annual temperatures would be
490F and its average precipitation would be 13.5 inches.

Paonia has an average of 138 days in the summer between the last
frost (32oF) in the spring and the first frost in the fall,
(May 19 to October 4). Cedaredge has an average of 143 days from
about May 17 to October 7.

o
