A <br />positive value signifies that a large streamflow value in one month tends <br />to be followed by a large streamflow in the succeeding month. A negative <br />value signifies that a large streamflow tends to be followed by a small <br />streamflow. The random component is included in the above equation to <br />reflect the inability to predict future flow sequences exactly. <br /> <br />This procedure was used to generate 1,000 years of synthetic monthly native <br />flows on the Big Thompson River. As shown in Table 4-3, the generation <br />technique reproduced the statistics of the historic Big Thompson native <br />flows quite accurately; consequently the generated 1000-year record was <br />used in subsequent evaluations.
