<br />Watershed Resources <br /> <br />The project area is included in Recreation Region "0" and it is reported <br />in the 1970 Colorado Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan that supply <br />exceeds demand for fishing, trailer camping, outdoor game areas, tennis, <br />and golf. Other outdoor recreation activities are in deficient supply <br />according to the report. <br /> <br />Accessibility to public facilities for recreational purposes is good. <br />On private land outdoor recreational activities are pursued at the <br />landowner's pleasure. <br /> <br />Archeological and Historical Values and Unique Scenic Areas <br /> <br />Jules Bevi's ranch headquarters, established in 1859>on the south side <br />of the South 'Platte River opposite the mouth of Lodgepole Creek, became <br />an Indian trading post and later ~erved as a stopping point for the Pony <br />Express and travelers on the Oregon Trail. Fort Sedgwick was established <br />in 1864 near Bevi's ranch and also on the south side of the South Platte <br />River. <br /> <br />The town of Julesburg has had four locations, the first two were south <br />of the South Platte and the la?t two locations have been north of the <br />South Platte and east of Lodgepole Creek. <br /> <br />The Nebraska State Historical SocIety does not have any archeological or <br />. hLs.tQLJcal--8j~Jjs~"ri fn"-_th~ras.ka-por-l:lon_of_the-wa.te+shed__T-he--_. <br />Colorado State Historical Society does not have any historical sites <br />listed in the watershed. <br /> <br />There are no sites I isted in the rederal Register, Department of the <br />Interior, National Park Service, National Register of Historic Places. <br />The University of Colorado Archeological Museum has two archeological <br />site cards on file in their office. One card describes scattered sur- <br />face Indian campsite evidence in the NW 1/4, Section 36, T12-N, R47-W <br />which is in the watershed. The other card was issued for T44 or T45-W, <br />RI2-N, but does not indicate any evidence found. <br /> <br />A professional archeologist conducted a cultural resource inventory of <br />proposed construction sites and flood pool areas. The report and its <br />supplement was reviewed and its conclusions with respect to effects of <br />the structural measures have been accepted by the State Hi~torical Society <br />of Colorado. His report concluded that no significant scientific, <br />prehistoric, or archeological resources will be adversely effected by <br />proposed works of improvement. The report is on file at the Soil Conser- <br />vation Service state office in Denver, Colorado. <br /> <br />There are no' unique scenic areas within the watershed. <br /> <br />15 <br />
