We hired Empire Laboratories, Inc" a loca+ soils engineering firm, to visually

inspect the ditch and asked them for their, comments. They have prepared a report

of their preliminary observations which is included following this chapter.

These observations included the replacement or repair of most of the existing

check structures; rebuilding of the embankments to minimize erosion and scouring

especially around the check structures; removing as many of the trees along the

ditch as possible; and that an organized, in-depth, soil investigation, including

boring, be done along the length of the di~ch.

We feel that these steps are necessary for the proper design of this ditch so

that foundation design problems can be minimized. We recommend that test borings

be made at one-half (~) mile intervals as a minimum and closer together if site

specific conditions warrant,

6

I

I

I

I
I

I

I

I

I
I

I

I
I

I

I

I

I

I

I
