~-
, )

~

1) DEMAND FORECASTING PLAN

Puroose:

Develop a plan for forecasting seasonal irrigation water demands.

Boyle will review the estimates of crop water requirements
deve'oped for the Norwood,Redvale service area in the Phase 1
studies. Emphasis will be placed on accommodating reported
crop demands in late April in the lower portion of the service area.
Heavy reliance will be made on the work performed for the
Phase 1 studies.

Methods:

Representative monthly crop water requirement distributions by
crop and by location in the service area will be developed. The
crops to be investigated are alfalfa. grass. spring grains, and corn.
The service area will be divided into an upper portion (Norwood)
and a lower portion (Redvale) with the division made at
approximately Coventry Hill.

Historic climatic data will be used to develop representative
average. wet. and dry year crop water requirement distributions
for each crop and for both portions of the service area. These
crop water requirement curves will be translated into reservoir
demand curves through consideration of transit losses and
application efficiencies. All of the curves described above are on
a unit demand basis in units of acre, feet per acre,

Farm specific reservoir demand estimates for average. wet, and
dry years will be developed using the information developed
above and data obtained during irrigator interviews regarding crop
type, irrigation application methods, and irrigated acreage, These
reservoir demand estimates will be entered into a database
developed for those parcels uniquely identified during the irrigator
interviews. The demands for each parcel when composited form
the total demand for the service area, The units associated with
the farm specific demands will be acre-feet.

A brief summary memorandum (5 pages) will be prepared
describing the procedures and data used in this analysis and
presenting the results.

Products:

o

Revised crop water requirement curves which incorporate
additional eariy season demands.

o Farm-specific reservoir demand estimates for
representative average, wet, and dry years incorporated
into a database corresponding to specific land parcels,

o Summary memorandum describing procedures and
results,

2
