Immediate needs as identified by oiicials of
Colorado - Ute Electric Association are for an additional 5,000
acre-feet of reserve storage for cooling aater and other
purnoses at the Hayden Plant. Projeced ong range needs for
this industry along the Yampa River are estimated at 50,000
acre feet of storage. T+'ith the present continuing exoansion
of the energy industry in the Yampa River Basin, exact daily,
or wee}:ly use igures cannot be determined. Because o` the
extreme conseouences of any unscheduled shutdoc•m of the nlant
there must be absolute certainty as to the availability of a
caater. supnlv. Por this reason *_he comnany needs alternate
sources of supply which will be used infreauently but will be
available on short notice cvhen reauired. In the event the `ull industrial
demand is made on Yarmcolo Reservoir in a vear. in which it
does not fill, users of the irrigation allr ation have agreed
to subordinate their use to industry and i.n return nay a lor
annual water charge for what oill be in efect interrugta.ble
service. Plhen actual industrial demands are less than the
a^ount allotted, the re?nainin industrial water aill likelp
be held over to nrovide earlier reservoir filling in the
follaaing year. Also, return flotas fron the increased
irrigation will increase the river flows at Hayden during
the summer mor.ths.
' The Bear Peservcir Site which has been used in this report
as a bossible least cost alternative for industrial water storage
' at °arcolo, would he a logical second stage develonment for
industrial and ?lunicioal needs as future dertands in the basin
' expand.
