Debris on the upstream
face is 1 imited to an occasi onal pi ece of dri ftwood. No major vegetati ve
growth is present on the face wi th the excepti on of several small seedl i ngs
near the left abutment. These should be removed as part of a regular
maintenance program.

1.2.4 Downstream Face

The downstream slope of the dam appears to be uniform at 2H to 1 V.
been protected from erosion by a grass cover. However, the grass
sparse in some areas owi ng to the inert nature of the under1yi ng
gravel. Numerous erosion rivulets exist on the downstream face
maximum section of the dam.

It has
cover is
sand and
nea r the

Duri ng the si te i nspecti on, City personnel menti oned that two hori zontal rows
of willow bushes used to be well defined along the downstream face. However,
over the past several years, the growth has diminished and the feature is not
as obvious. This is most likely due to a reduction in the phreatic surface in
the dam resulting from the toe drain installation.

Several small seed1 i ngs exi st near the 1 eft abutment and shoul d be removed
under the regular maintenance program.

1.3 Outlet Works

Releases from the reservoir are made through a 2.5 feet wide by 3.0 feet high
concrete arch outlet conduit that discharges into a stilling basin at the
maximum dam section. Releases through the outlet conduit are controlled by an
intake structure at the upstream end. The intake structure rests on the
upstream slope of the dam and contains three separate gated inlets at
elevations 9247.0, 9257.0, and 9261.5. From the concrete stilling basin,
flows pass through a 5-foot diameter corrugated metal culvert under Colorado
Hi ghway 14 and empty into Joe Wri ght Creek. The outl et condui t and still i n9
basin structure were repaired by the City in 1986 and are in fair condition.
A crawl-through inspection of the outlet conduit by MKE personnel revealed

1231 H

-41-
