The map includes the major features for the Greeley water supply <br />and treatment system, and the principal cities in the vicinity. The Cache la <br />Poudre River originates at the Continental Divide in the Rocky Mountains, <br />approximately 65 miles \~est -of Greeley, and flows eastward to its confluence <br />with the South Platte River, approximately three miles east of Greeley. <br /> <br />Barnes Meadow Dam is located in Larimer County on a small unnamed creek which <br />is a tributary of Joe Wright Creek and the Cache la Poudre River. The resort <br />of Spencer Heights is approximately six miles downstream of the dam. The dam <br />and reservoir are in Roosevelt National Forest. The drainage area above the <br />dam is 3.01 square miles. The basin has a total length of 2.6 miles and an <br />average wi dth of 1. 9 mil es. Slopes along the mai n channel average about 528 <br />feet per mile, and the basin elevation ranges from 10,470 feet to 9,040 feet. <br />Topography of the area is mountainous, and the predominant watershed cover is <br />forest. Drainage patterns are well defined. <br /> <br />The City of Greeley is located in Weld County on the plains east of the Rocky <br />Mountains. It is about 50 miles north of Denver, Colorado. The Cache la <br />Poudre Ri ver fl ows through the ci ty to its confl uence wi th the South Pl atte <br />River. <br /> <br />2.0 CLIMATE <br /> <br />Greeley enjoys the mild, sunny, semi-arid climate that occurs over much of the <br />central Rocky Mountain region. The good cl imate results 1 argely from <br />Greeley's location on the east slope of the Rocky Mountains in the belt of the <br />prevailing westerlies.
