The map includes the major features for the Greeley water supply
and treatment system, and the principal cities in the vicinity. The Cache la
Poudre River originates at the Continental Divide in the Rocky Mountains,
approximately 65 miles \~est -of Greeley, and flows eastward to its confluence
with the South Platte River, approximately three miles east of Greeley.

Barnes Meadow Dam is located in Larimer County on a small unnamed creek which
is a tributary of Joe Wright Creek and the Cache la Poudre River. The resort
of Spencer Heights is approximately six miles downstream of the dam. The dam
and reservoir are in Roosevelt National Forest. The drainage area above the
dam is 3.01 square miles. The basin has a total length of 2.6 miles and an
average wi dth of 1. 9 mil es. Slopes along the mai n channel average about 528
feet per mile, and the basin elevation ranges from 10,470 feet to 9,040 feet.
Topography of the area is mountainous, and the predominant watershed cover is
forest. Drainage patterns are well defined.

The City of Greeley is located in Weld County on the plains east of the Rocky
Mountains. It is about 50 miles north of Denver, Colorado. The Cache la
Poudre Ri ver fl ows through the ci ty to its confl uence wi th the South Pl atte
River.

2.0 CLIMATE

Greeley enjoys the mild, sunny, semi-arid climate that occurs over much of the
central Rocky Mountain region. The good cl imate results 1 argely from
Greeley's location on the east slope of the Rocky Mountains in the belt of the
prevailing westerlies.
