The PROecr will consist of the DistricYs participation with the U. S.
Bureau of Reclamation in the rehabilitation (re-drill and re-locate) of several Closed Basin
project wells. The existing wells have lost production capabilities over the past several years
due to draw-down of the aquifer at specific locations and basic wear and tear of well pumps
and appurtenances. The wel! improvements are designed to reduce the well screen size
and the size of the bore and are intended to insure the system meets the water quality
requirements of the project. The Closed Basin project is located in the San Luis Valley and
operated by the Bureau of Reclamation. The project is a network of groundwater salvage
wells, pipeline laterals, and a conveyance channel designed to salvage unconfined ground
water and available surface flow in the Closed Basin that would otherwise be lost to
evapotranspiration. The project assists Colorado in meeting its' commitment to the states of
New Mexico and Texas under the Rio Grande Compact of 9939, and the United States'
commitment to Mexico under the treaty of May 21, 1906. The project also provides delivery
of water to the Alamosa National Wildlife Refuge and Blanca Wildlife Habitat Area,
stabilization of San Luis Lake, recreational facilities at San Luis Lake, and fish and wildlife
enhancement.
SECTION 3- TIME FOR PERFORMANCE
Project Beginning: Upon effective date of this contract
Project Finish: On or before June 30, 2004
SECTION 4 - DISBURSEMENT SCHEDULE
Disbursement of funds.
