A brief description of the hydrogeology of the area
along with the known characteristics of the components of the City's water system are
detailed in this chapter.

A. Location of Pumping, Storage, and Distribution Facilities
The location of the City's existing water system facilities is shown on Figure 3-1.

B. History of Water System
The Town of Fort Lupton was founded in 1890, and according to available
historical records, the town's public water system originated in 1908. The beginning
of the water system consisted of two wells and primarily 4-inch mains, A few 6-inch
mains were constructed along major thoroughfares, Businesses and residents were
served by taps off this distribution system. As the town grew, so too did the water
system, with major improvements and expansions occurring in 1911, 1923, 1964, 1967,
1972, 1980, and 1982, Generally, new water mains were constructed and new wells
drilled as new development occurred in the City, Originally, storage was provided by
an elevated storage tank located at the present location of the Fort Lupton City Hall.
In 1973, the elevated tank was dismantled, and a new storage reservoir was located
on the east side of the City (see Figure 3-1), A second storage reservoir was
constructed adjacent to the first in 1992. In the spring and summer of 1993, the City
upgraded each of its five operating wells to increase their capacities to their legally
decreed amounts.

25325,100; 12/09/94

3-1
