I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

compared to the 275 gpcd demand recommended for Fort Lupton by the Water
Service Plan. This information is summarized in Table 2-5. Based on the water
usage of the surrounding communities listed in Table 2-5, an annual per capita day
water demand of 225 was selected for planning purposes for the City of Fort Lupton /
based on the following criteria: V

. A residential average per capita day demand of 150 gpcd was assumed. This
value is on the high end of the residential averages for Denver metropolitan
communities,

. Within the last year, the Golden Recycling Aluminum Company in
Fort Lupton expanded its operations and is using more water than it has
historica lly, Based on water meter records for the past year, the company
is using approximately 172,000 gallons per day (gpd), which translates into
an average day per capita demand of about 31 gpcd. For projection
purposes, it was assumed that the company's demand expressed in terms of
per capita day demand would be 35 gpcd.

. It was assumed that the water usage of other light industry in Fort Lupton
would average 20 gpcd. This assumption will be confirmed once meter
readings are available.

. It was assumed that per capita commercial demand would also average
20 gpcd in accordance with the recommendations of the Water Service Plan.
This assumption will be confirmed once meter readings are available.

The total of these components is 225 gpcd, Once water meters are installed by the
end of 1994, it will be possible to check these assumptions, as well as determine the
magnitude of the distribution leakage problem that is suspected to exist.
The 225-gpcd demand is on the high end of the average total day demands of the
Denver metropolitan area. This average per capita per day demand does not include
the requirements of very high water-use industries like Thermo, High water-use
industries must be evaluated separately for potential impacts upon the City. The
City's goal for long-range planning is for Fort Lupton to reduce its water demands
to somewhere near the average of the metropolitan Denver area, To achieve this
goal, the City may need to implement water conservation measures and educate the
community,

25325,100; 12/07/94

2-13
