.

The spillway consists of a rectangular channel excavated into
rock at the south abutment. The channel width is about 32 feet at
the dam centerline, narrowing to about 23 feet at the lower end. At
the time of the original construction, the spillway was unlined. A
concrete lining was added at some later date, possibly in 1927.
Afterwards, the spillway inlet consisted of a rock ledge and a low
concrete crest upon which wooden flash gates had been erected. The
maximum water surface elevation was probably about the same as the
present ogee crest (gage 91). In 1960, the present ogee crest and
bathtub inlet were constructed and repairs were made to portions of
the concrete lining. In 1972, additional improvements were made in
the concrete lining.
An extremely heavy snow pack in 1979 raised doubts about the
dam's ability to pass the anticipated snowmelt flood together with a
.potential 50 or SOO-year rainflood. The dam crest was raised seven
feet through an emergency construction program to a gage height of
105 (elevation 9463).

.

.

-40-
