.

LANDS SERVED BY THE SLVID

.

The lands served by the SLVID lie within the boundaries of the
SLVID shown on Map 728-7 contained in the back pocket of this report.
The gross acreage amounted to 49,930 acres in 1981. Because some of
the corners are not irrigated, the net irrigated acreage, although
variable from year to year, is estimated to be approximately 45,000
acres. This acreage was managed by 165 landowners in 1981.
For the last three years the SLVID has estimated the acreage for
each crop. The acreage has not been determined consistently since
one person estimates a full 160 acres per quarter irrigated and
another person only estimates 130 acres per quarter irrigated. Actu-
ally the true acreage is somewhere in between 130 and 160 acres per
quarter since some of the "corners" are irrigated. For comparison
purposes, the cropping pattern is shown as a percent of the total
acreage in Table 6.

TABLE 6
SLVID CROPPING PATTERN
(Values are percent of total)

Crop 1979 1980 1981
Small Grains 37 39 41
Potatoes 21 23 26
Alfalfa 23 17 18
Pas tu re 11 13 11
Fallow or Not Farmed 4 4 1
Other (1) 4 4 3
(1) Other includes peas, 1 ettuce, sweet clover, native hay,
corn and beans.

.

-24-
