Beyond obtaining the sources described above for use during this plan year, AGUA is also. actively searching out new replacement sources to have available for next year's plan. AGUA is ttying to obtain approximately 2,000 acre. feet at an expected cost of $25 per acre-foot, or a total cost of$50,000. Ifpossible, AGUA would like to make long tenll or pennanent arrangements for some of these potential sources. Engineering expenses associated with the plan during this remarkable year, including procurement of the new water sources, amendment of AGUA's plan to include such water, amendment of the plan to adjust to the reduced amount of replacement water available, and the almost daily need to be involved in the plan operation have exceeded $60,000, Before the 2002 plan year is out those costs are expected to be approximately $100,000, far beyond the $25,000 to $30,000 the annual plan normally costs AGUA Based on the conditions described above AGUA respectfully requests a grant of $100,000 to cover the purchase cost of water that has already been obtained, and the purchase of water that continues to be sought. lfthe grants are only available as matching funds, AGUA would like you to consider the extra operating expenses of this year as its contribution.
