<br />CHAPTER III <br /> <br />LAND <br /> <br />A. Land Classification - At the present time there are <br />approximately 22,933 acres irrigated by the Greeley and Loveland <br />Irrigation Company and the Seven Lakes Reservoir Company, Share- <br />holders of the two companies jointly use the canals and reservoirs <br />owned by them. The joint system is operated by ditch riders who <br />control the storage and daily deliveries of water to shareholders <br />of the companies. As stated earlier, there are approximately 22,933 <br />acres irrigated by the Greeley and Loveland Irrigation <br />Company and the Seven Lakes Reservoir Company systems. <br />The City of Greeley owns approximately 327 of the 1,936 <br />outstanding shares in the Greeley and Loveland Irrigation <br />Company and 62 of the 400 outstanding shares in the Seven <br />Lakes Reservoir Company. <br /> <br />As indicated in the Wheeler Report, Exhibit H, the follow- <br />ing agencies were contacted regarding crop use: <br /> <br />a. Colorado Crop and Livestock Reporting Service <br />b. Soil Conservation Service, Greeley, Colorado <br />Office <br />c. Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation <br />Service, Greeley, Colorado Office <br />d. North Colorado Water Conservancy District <br />e. Greeley and Loveland Irrigation Company <br /> <br />The agencies did not have specific information regarding <br />crops grown, yields, and relative distribution of each <br />crop. To determine the major crops grown in the system, <br />the study interviewed several farmers in the system. <br />Based on those interviews, Table 1 indicates the general <br />crop distribution. <br /> <br />3 <br />
