It is situated along the Colorado River in the area known as the
Grand Valley. The Town lies at an elevation of approximately 4,500 feet above
sea level. Highway access to Fruita is obtained by Interstate 70 and High-
ways 6 and 50 and State Highway 340 to the south of town. The Denver and Rio
Grande Western Railroad (DRGWRR) provides rail service to the area.

A project map is shown in Figure 1 which indicates the present water distribution
service area, the location of the existing water treatment facilities and
storage tank and the treated water transmission lines. Also shown on the map
are the location of proposed additional treated water storage tank and the water
treatment facilities. Two alignments for treated water transmission lines
were considered. Alignment Number 1, the route of the existing lines, is
recommended as the preferred alignment by an economic evaluation.

Figure Number 2 and Figure Number 3 show the geographical location within
Colorado and in the Grand Valley respectively.

CLIMATE

Fruita has a semi-arid mountain desert
sonal variations are wide.
