The resulting monthly peaking factor for the 8-year period was 1.84. For
the three years in which the highest volume of water use was recorded, the
average monthly peaking factor was 1.81.

The monthly peaki ng factor expressed in another fonn is the percent of the
annual use during one peak month. For a 1.84 monthly peaking factor, the one-
month total is 15.33 percent of the annual volume.

Deriving the peaking factors for 10-day and daily flo"l is usually based upon
actual use records. Long-tenn records of this nature are not available for
Towaoc and we expect that future use patterns will change substantially when
the finn water supply becomes available. The research by Hughes and Gross
(1979), for small towns in Utah, shows the 10-day peaking factor to be 110
percent of the monthly peaking factor with the daily peaking factor being 119
percent of the monthly peaking factor.

Table 3.1 summarizes the computation for a Towaoc municipal system peaking
requirements based on the aforementioned percentages.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Table 3.1
Estimated Towaoc Water Demand Peaking Factors

Average
Annual Basi s

Monthly
Peaking Factor

10-Day
Peaki ng Factor

Daily
Peaki ng Factor

1.0

l.R4

2.02

2.19

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Table 3.2 extends the peaking factors into flow rates for the case in which
the total annual delivery is to be 1,000 af.

3-6

1060c
