The water is
low in heavy metals and total dissolved solids. The concentrations of
nitrogen, sulfate, chloride, and fluoride are also very low.

During the June 16, 1980 water quality analysis, the concentration of lead was
reported as 0.250 mg/1. The fo11 owi ng month, the concentrati on was 0.027
mg/l, which is below the 0.050 mg/l standard. The high lead concentration of
0.250 mgll for the station upstream of Fort Collins is substantially higher
than subsequent analyses. An analysis of the remaining 47 monthly samples
i ndi cates an average 1 ead concentrati on of only 0.003 mg/1. The 0.250 mgll
concentration is 83 times greater than the average lead concentration.

The hi gh 1 ead val ue appears to be the resul t of an unknown i sol ated event
upstream, or equipment problems in the testing laboratory. For these reasons,
the 0.250 mgll value was omitted from Table IV.9.

-35-
