The map includes the major features for the Greeley water supply <br />and treatment system, and the principal cities in the vicinity. The Cache 1a <br />Poudre Ri ver ori gi nates at the Conti nenta1 Di vi de in the Rocky Mountai ns, <br />approximately 65 mi 1 es west of Greel ey, and flows eastward to its conf1 uence <br />with the South Platte River, approximately three miles east of Greeley. <br /> <br />Peterson lake Dam is located in larimer County on a small unnamed creek which <br />is a tributary of the Cache la Poudr~ River. The resort of Spencer Heights is <br />approximately eight miles downstream of the dam. The dam and reservoir are in <br />Roosevel t Nati onal Forest. The dra; nage area above the dam is 2.65 square <br />miles. The basin has a total length of 1.8 miles and an average width of 1.5 <br />miles. Slopes along the main channel average about 550 feet per mile, and the <br />basin elevation ranges from 9500 feet to 11,355 feet. Topography of the area <br />is mountainous, and the predominant watershed cover is forest. Drainage <br />patterns are well defined. <br /> <br />The City of Greeley is located in Weld County on the plains east of the Rocky <br />Mountains. It is about 50 miles north of Denver, Colorado. The Cache la <br />Poudre Ri ver flows through the city to its conf1 uence wi th the South P1 atte <br />Ri ver. <br /> <br />2.0 CLIMATE <br /> <br />Greeley enjoys the mild, sunny, semi,arid climate that occurs over much of the <br />central Rocky Mountain region. The good climate results largely from <br />Greeley's location on the east slope of the Rocky Mountains in the belt of the <br />prevailing westerlies.
