<br />~ <br /> <br />.. <br /> <br />SECTION I <br />PROJECT SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS <br /> <br />SUMMARY <br /> <br />!; <br /> <br />Basalt Is experiencing considerable growth pressure related to the <br /> <br /> <br />rapid expansion ocurring In Aspen, Snowmass, and other parts of the <br /> <br /> <br />Roaring Fork Valley. The growth Impact on the water utility system <br /> <br /> <br />serving Basalt Is a primary concern In the community. Basalt has a <br /> <br /> <br />municipal water system which has been constructed, operated, and <br /> <br /> <br />maintained by the Town administration. The present water system is <br /> <br /> <br />barely adequate to provide enough water to the present Town customers <br /> <br /> <br />during dry periods, and the Basalt administration recognizes the need <br /> <br /> <br />to develop a reliable and safe system to provide water for the <br />domestic and fire protection needs of present and future development. <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />Two new developments will begin construction In 1977, and possibly a <br /> <br /> <br />third In 1978. Developers are required to provide the entire <br /> <br /> <br />distribution system for a new de~elopment, as well as necessary additional <br /> <br /> <br />water sources and transmission pipelines to serve the new developments. <br /> <br />New spring collection boxes are presently being designed, as are the <br /> <br />raw water transmission line and control facility. In addition to the <br />above, the complete project, as orooosed bv this reoort., Include~ comple- <br />tion of the distribution system line replacements, a new transmission <br /> <br />line to the new storage tank location, a 1.2 MG burled concrete water <br /> <br />r'- <br /> <br />.. <br />
