.

IV-3

,

for development. Assuming 8,000 square feet per equivalent single-

family residence, the ultimate development would include 4,000 equivalent

single-family living units. Ultimate maximum population, assuming 3.5

people per living unit, would be about 14,000 for the Basalt area.

POPULATION PROJECTION

!

Past census history indicates that Basalt's population has varied on

a percentage increase or decrease basis approximately the same as the

Aspen area, and the growth trend for Aspen continues upward. Recreation

activity in the Aspen and Snowmass areas constitute a major portion

of Basalt's economic base; therefore, we expect continued growth in

these areas to be reflected in Basalt's population. Past and projected

population figures obtained brom the Eagle County Planning Department

are given in Table IV-A.

,

A 20-year projected population curve for Basalt is shown in Figure IV-A.

The growth shown through 1992 is based primarily on proposed subdivision

development. Growth for the period 1992 through 1997 is estimated on an

8.5 percent increase per year (not compounded). This increase rate is

very conservative considering the recent population increases experienced

by Basalt.

~~,

PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT
Development initially contemplated ~ithin Basalt includes the following

four separate parcels:

1. Basalt South Subdivision, located south of the main part of Town;

2. Riverside Meadows Subdivision, located east of the main part of Town;

;
