,

SECTION IV
EXISTING AND POTENTIAL LAND DEVELOPMENT

EXISTING DEVELOPMENT

Areas of existing and potential development in the Town of Basalt

are shown on Drawing No.1. The present Town area is 235

acres, and the estimated population is 900. The Basalt water

system serves the entire Town plus a number of homes east of Basalt

along the Fryingpan River. The estimated population presently served

by the Basalt water system is 1,000 people.

.

.

ULTIMATE DEVELOPMENT
The projections of ultimate development area and population for Basalt

were developed with the guidance of the Mayor, the Town Council, and

Jerry Brown, the Eagle County Planner, and set forth in the "Water

System Master Plan for the Town of Basalt, Eagle County, Colorado,"

prepared by Wright-McLaughlin Engineers in April, 1973. The Basalt

development study area, as agreed upon, is also shown on Drawing #1.

The geographic boundaries of this development area are the Roaring

Fork River on the southwest, the contour line at elevation 7,000 on

the north and east, and a line on the west extending north from the

Roaring Fork River to elevation 7,000 and passing through the power

substation. These boundaries are based on the following facts:

~~,

.
