Parts of this original system are still

in use. The galvanized steel pipeline is old and wearing thin. Collec-

tion facilities at the springs allow a large amount of water to escape.

!

Water from Lucksinger Spring became an additional source of supply

in the late 1960's by agreement with the State of Colorado, owners

of the spring and the water rights covering it. Basalt leases

Lucksinger Spring water from the Division of Game, Fish and Parks.

This lease is effective until 1999.

.

Storage facilities were then added to the system, consisting of one

60,000 gallon steel tank and two 100,000 gallon steel tanks.

Treatment facilities consist of a covered, semi-buried concrete

settling basin with a chlorination facility added in 1974 in response
to State Health standards.

A major portion of the distribution system is the original, 70 year

old, 4- and 6-inch galvanized steel pipe. Recent improvements to the
system include the installation of approximately 150 l.f. of 12-inch
CIP, 2,850 l.f. of 10-inch CIP, 3,700 l.f. of 8-inch CIP, 650 l.f.
of 6-inch CIP,and 13 fire hydrants.

~

.
