Location. The project is located in Section 36 Township 30 South, Range 72 <br />West; Section I, Township 31 South, Range 72 West; Section 31 Township 30 <br />South, Range 71 West; and Section 6 Township 31 South, Range 71 West of the <br />6th P.M., In Costllla County, Colorado. Access to the project site Is via Ice <br />House Road off of Colorado State Highways 159 and 160. Figure 1-1 shows the <br />project location and access. <br /> <br />The nearest town Is Fort Garland located approximately 2.0 mlles west and 2.5 <br />mlles north of the reservoir dam. The nearest city Is Alamosa located approxi- <br />mately 27 mlles west of the site. <br /> <br />The elevation of the site Is approximately 8200 feet (USGS) as shown on Figure <br />1-2. <br /> <br />B. Project Map. Figure 1-3 shows the Trlncherra Irrigation Company system <br />Including the proposed project, nearby towns, and the general land area served <br />by the company. The area served from the reservoir Is shown In blue and lles <br />between Mountain Home Reservoir and Smith Reservoir and Includes approximately <br />11,800 acres of Irrigated farm land. The total Irrigated farm land served by the <br />Trinchera Irrigation Company Is approximately 14,100 acres. <br /> <br />C. Cllmate. The following tables 1-1 through 1-4 show the average monthly <br />temperatures, maximum and minimum temperatures of record, average monthly <br />precipitation, snowfall, Information on hall, and various other statistics concern- <br />ing the weather near the project site. The tables were supplled by the National <br />Oceanic And Atmospheric Administration office located In Alamosa, Colorado. <br />The information provided Is from their weather substations located near Alamosa <br />and from cooperative stations in Alamosa. Table 1-4 shows the location of the <br />weather stations utlllzed. <br /> <br />Table 1-1 provides the monthly Information for 1990, Table 1-2 gives the <br />averages for the years 1961 through 1990, and Table 1-3 gives a summary of <br />average data for the years 1948 through 1990 . <br /> <br />Over 75 percent of the average annual 7 inches of precipitation occurs between <br />April and November. Representative seasonal average temperatures for the area <br />are: 1) January - 160; 2) Karch - 320; 3) Kay - 500; 4) July - 650; 5) Septe- <br />mber - 550; 6) November - 300. There is an average of 95 frost free-days <br />according to the NOAA records.
