Water Requirements
As described in Chapter II, the Boulder and Larimer County Irrigating and
Manufacturing Ditch Company owns the bottom portion of Ish Reservoir, plus 20%
of the upper part, and the Ish Reservoir Company owns the rest of the top por-
tion. The ditch rider (Mr. John Robinett) works for both owners and operates
the reservoir based on gauge height. He uses a capacity chart provided by Mr.
Don Brazelton, Deputy Water Commissioner for District 4, to calculate how much
water each respective party is entitled to. A copy of the capacity chart is
shown in Appendix C, page C-1. For example, if the amount stored in a given
year registers 36 feet on the gauge (which is full capacity) the first 21.3 feet
plus 20% of the remainder is apportioned to the Boulder and Larimer County
Irrigating and Manufacturing Ditch Company - commonly called Old Ish. The
remainder is assigned to Ish Reservoir Company (commonly called New Ish)
stockholders. The water is allocated to New Ish farmers by the "miner's inch".
When the reservoir is full, each share of Ish Reservoir Company stock is
entitled to 115 inches of water (approximately 6 AF). New Ish stockholders nor-
mally use all the water that is available to them. In addition to the Ish
Reservoir water, almost all these stockholders also own Highland Ditch Company
water and Colorado Big Thompson project water. Approximately ten stockholders
are on small acreages (8-10 acres); and the Northmoor Acres Owners Assn. (a
housing development) owns 11 shares which are used for irrigation but not
potable purposes. The stockholders list and shares owned is shown in Appendix
C, page C-3.
The 77 New Ish stockholders irrigate a total of over 15,500 acres. Crops
raised include corn, grain (barley, winter wheat), alfalfa, sugar beets and
pinto beans. Estimated crop requirements are based on information presented in
I

-I..

-15-
I
uJ_

I

~'i
,

. i,~I:
