PROJECT PLAN AND PRELIMINARY DESIGN

A. General

Thi s secti on of the report wi 11 present the recommendat ions for
rehabilitation of the structure, including a new spillway, and
backfilling of the existing spillway channel to stabilize the slide
area west of the spillway.

B. Spillway Alternatives

1. Alternative No.1

This alternative consists of a closed conduit service spillway,
located about 240 feet + northwest of the outlet works. Figure II
shows the location of the service spillway in plan. Figure V shows
the profile of the service spillway. In order to correct the slide
problem to the west of the existing spillway channel, the area should
be backfilled with compacted material from near the slide to stabilize
the toe and prevent further movement of the sl i de. An emergency
spillway is included in addition to the service spillway to replace
the existing spillway. The emergency spillway would only function
during large floods or if the service spillway was clogged with
debris, etc. which would severely limit the capacity of the spillway.

The service spillway would consist of a concrete crest wall
20 feet in total length with a 10 foot straight drop into the head end
of a 60-inch diameter corrugated aluminum pipe (CAP) culvert.
