U.S. Forest Service Criteria

The U.S. Forest Service hydrological criteria comes from the
"General Procedures and Criteria" publication by the U.S. Forest
Service (Reference 6), dated March, 1971. According to the U.S.
Forest Service criteria, Fuchs Dam would be classed a class C project.
The Forest Service has three hazard classifications identified; low,
moderate, and high.

a. Low hazard appl ies to structures bui lt in undeveloped areas
where failure would result in minor damage limited to lands
administered by the Forest Service, or roads, trails, and
other improvements on those lands. Assignment of a
low-hazard rating assumes that downstream occupancy or
development can be administratively controlled during the
life of the dam to preserve the low-hazard rating.

b. Moderate hazard appl ies to structures built in areas where
failure would result in serious damage to lands or improve-
ments admi ni stered by the Forest Servi ce, or in areas where
failure may cause damage to private lands and improvements,
dwellings, industrial or commercial buildings, or damage to
plant facilities or service of important publ ic utilities,
highways, or railroads.

- V-3 -
