EXISTING DAM, SPILLWAY AND OUTLET FACILITIES

Fuchs Dam was initially constructed in 1930 and enlarged to its
present height in 1938. Figure B-1, in Appendix B, is a copy of the
only construction drawing on file with the SED which shows the present
dam configuration. The spillway, shown on Figure B-1, was modified by
construction of a timber crib structure. Photographs nos. 1, 2 and 3
show the existing dam and spillway crest.

In September of 1978, a field topographic survey was made of the
dam crest and genera 1 area below the dam. Fi gu re I I shows the
topographic map which was developed from the field survey. Figure III
presents the profile of the dam along the centerline of the dam crest
based upon the field survey in 1978. The floor of the spillway was
assumed to be at elevation 200.0 feet. Based upon the field survey
results, the low point along the dam crest is at elevation 206.4 feet,
which results in about 6.4 feet of freeboard above the floor of the
spillway, and 4.2 feet above the existing spillway crest (with flash-
boards in place).

The spillway channel below the timber crib spillway has been
highly eroded over the years and probably contributes to the sl ide
condition on the mountain side to the west of the spillway and
spillway channel. Photographs nos. 4 and 5 show the existing spillway
channel and slide area; photograph no. 6 shows the outlet conduit at
the out 1 et.

- IV-1 -
