<br />SECTION I. PLAN OF STUDY <br /> <br />A. Purpose <br /> <br />The purpose of this study is to identify and evaluate options for increased <br /> <br /> <br />water resource develop1Z.ent in the portions of Montrose and San Miguel <br /> <br /> <br />counties bounded approri.mately by the drainage boundary between the San <br /> <br /> <br />Miguel and Dolores Rivers on the south. the San Miguel River on the east <br /> <br /> <br />and north, and Big GypSUlll Creek and the Dolores River on the west. The <br /> <br /> <br />study will be oriented .0 the development of storage and delivery systems <br /> <br /> <br />for high elevation water sources which are currently unused. It will <br /> <br /> <br />specifically avoid reanalysis of a large reservoir on the San Miguel River <br /> <br /> <br />or of long tunnels and lor pumping plants as a means of delivery to the <br /> <br /> <br />service area. Emphasis "ill be placed on the use of existing irrigation <br /> <br /> <br />facilities to the extent possible. <br /> <br />B. Level of Investigation <br /> <br />This study is to be prepared at the appraisal level, and will consist of <br /> <br /> <br />identifying project fea:ures, tentative sizes, and reconnaissance level <br /> <br /> <br />estimates of constructio~ quantities and estimated costs. Previous studies <br /> <br /> <br />and investigations will be carefully reviewed and results and information <br /> <br /> <br />pertinent to this study ..ill be utilized to the maximum extent possible. <br /> <br />Acquisition of additioccl field data will be limited to site inspection <br /> <br /> <br />by the project engineer and geologist and a limited number of topographic <br /> <br /> <br />surveys at locations ~~ich could have a significant influence on the <br /> <br />" <br /> <br />ultimate practicality of a particular project feature. <br /> <br />C. Study Approach <br /> <br />The conduct of the study will be closely coordinated with the President of <br />the San Miguel Water Cc~servancy District and officials of existing ditch <br /> <br /> <br />-1- <br />
