VII-ld

.

Tests of these ,ells indicate potential yields of 400 gpm or more. Just

southeast of Ba.alt, the results of an alluvial test hole indicate p')ten-

tial yields of 200 gpm or more.

At both of the above described localities, water quality was good with the

exception of hardness. The hardness values in both cases exceeded 204 ppm.

Test Well

During the period of June through August, 1975, Test Hole A was dri I led and

test pumped for the Town of Carbondale, Colorado. The test well was included

as a part of an EDA project and was paid for from the Town's matching funds

for this overall project. This test hole is located next to the Crystal

River in the SWi;, SEi;, Section 3, T8s, R88w, 6th P.M., on prope,-ty owned by

Mr. Walter Doroughty. A location map is shown on Figure VII-B.

.

Prior to tile drilling of this test hole, a hydrogeologic and geophysical

investigation of the Carbondale area was conducted by Wright Water Engineers,

Inc. This study was concluded in February, 1975. The data is included in

Appendix D.

Test Hole A was not drilled at the most suitable location indicated by the

geophysical work due to problems in securing an easement. Therefore, addi-

tional soundings were conducted in June at the site of Test Hole A. The

data gathered at that time is also included in Appendix E.

Water and geologic formation samples were collected during the drilling.

Short bail tests were conducted at selected intervals to monitor possible

flucutations in water quality and quantity. Upon completion of the test

hole, a 17-hour pumping test was conducted. The well was then deepened and

a 24-hour pumping test conducted.

Carbondale Test Hole A was completed to a depth of 84.5 feet on August 19

1975. Two formal pumping tests were conducted. The second test, conducted

after the well was completed to a depth of 84.5 feet, was at a discharge rate

of 510 - 517 gpm.

.
